Function Training Videos

EP1: DateSubtract()

Description: This function returns the amount of time between two dates / date fields in Clarizen (as duration)

Use: This is important because sometimes it’s useful to see the actual amount of time there for work between two dates, and to know if that time is in work time or in calendar days

EP2: DateDiff()

Description: This function returns the amount of time between two dates / date fields in Clarizen, with the option of choosing the interval unit of time.

Use: Like DateSubtract(), this function is important because it’s useful to see the actual amount of time between two dates in the system. Unlike DateSubtract(), which gives you only the option to see the difference in days (working or calendar), DateDiff() gives you the option of more duration intervals, like weeks, months, or years.

EP3: DateAdd()

Description: This function returns a date in Clarizen that takes into consideration adding time to a date currently in the system.

Use: It is useful when you need to tack time onto a date, say a contingency buffer.

EP4: Date Functions – Day() vs Days(), Weeks, Months, and Years

Description: These functions return the day’s numeric representation in a date field within the Planview Clarizens software configuration. These functions add or subtract a specific number of days/weeks/months/years to or from a date.

Use: It is useful when you need to add or subtract a specific number of days to or from a date. Same concept for Week/Weeks, Month/Months and Year/Years.

EP5: IsChanged()

Description: This function determines if the value in a field has changed within your project workflow rule in Clarizen.

Use: The change of a field value is a common trigger for a business rule, and this function is one of the most widely used functions within the Calrizen software.

EP6: IsManuallySet()

Description: This function returns TRUE if specific Clarizen calculated fields have been overwritten by a direct update, otherwise return FALSE.

Use: IsManuallySet() is available as a filter in reports and will apply to auto-calculated fields, such as; start date, due date, status, percentage complete, and many revenue and cost fields.

EP7: If()

Description: This function is used when you want to give Clarizen a conditional command, wherein you are essentially telling Clarizen “If this is true, do X, but otherwise do Y”

Use: This is useful because most of the things we want to do in Clarizen are based on a condition of some kind. It would be rare to write a rule or an action that was absolute, as in “Do this 100% of the time”. Therefore, If() lets you create conditional logic

EP8: CurrentUser()

Description: This function references to the Current User within the object, or in other words it is the person or default user running the action on the object/ Module.

Use:This is useful/important because you can create Business rules directed to the current person on the object via VR and WFR.
